William Thedorf Sr. Killed on Motorcycle in Crash at Winchester Rd and Route 45

Libertyville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to a car vs. motorcycle crash at Winchester Road and Route 45 in Libertyville.

A motorcyclists, William Thedorf, Sr, was hit by a Volkswagen driven by an 18-year-old male driver from Mundelien. The driver told police he did not see the motorcycle.

Thedorf, 79, of Mount Prospect, was on a Harley Davidson headed southbound on U.S. Route 45 while the driver was waiting for a train to pass before making a left turn. When the train cleared, the driver of the Volkswagen turned left and struck the oncoming motorcycle.

William Thedorf, Sr. was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, and pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m. Thursday. Thedorf was wearing a helmet and padded clothing, but died of multiple trauma.

The accident is under investigation by Libertyville police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
