Minooka, Illinois resident Jeremy Fink, 23, has been identified as the driver who was killed when his vehicle hit an upright bridge support at Biesterfield Road over southbound Route 53/I-290. An autopsy determined he died instantly from trauma with multiple injuries.

Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:12 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a vehicle vs. viaduct crash on southbound Route 53 south of Biesterfield. As Engine 7 was southbound on Route 53, south of Biesterfield Road, a motorist flagged down the fire engine crew and waved at them that the crash was north of the Biesterfield Road bridge. Engine 7 reported they were going to make a southbound-to-northbound turnaround at Thorndale Avenue. Elk Grove Village firefighters on Engine 7 discovered the wrecked vehicle with ‘heavy damage’ about 8:19 p.m. at the Biesterfield Road bridge up off the roadway. Engine 7 reported the sighting of the wrecked vehicle as they headed northbound and passed just north of Biesterfield — looking behind them to the left. Engine 7 continued northbound to make the turn around at Higgins Road, and headed southbound. They apparently had to turn north from the interchange at Thorndale Avenue after entering south of Biesterfield with the initial report of the vehicle south of Biesterfield Road. The original report caused fire vehicles to have to use cloverleaf interchanges to get back north of the crash, and head southbound on Route 53 to arrive on the scene at the Beisterfield viaduct. There were also reports with the locations, which led to response to possibly more than one accident. Engine 7 was first on the scene at about 8:25 p.m. and confirmed one victim trapped. No additional crashes were discovered.

Elk Grove Village fire command then returned Itasca and Schaumburg firefighters.

Elk Grove Ambulance 7 did not transport the victim, and were cleared from the scene about 10:58 p.m. All other Elk Grove Village Fire Department equipment also cleared the scene about 10:58 p.m.

Illinois State Police are investigating.
