War on Christmas Decorations Roundup (Update)

Area police departments have received several cases of criminal damage to property to holiday decorations and of stealing holiday decorations.

Schaumburg police received a report about 11:43 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 of criminal damage to Christmas decorations in the 500 block of Lindsay Avenue. A vehicle was driven onto the yard and damaged Christmas decorations for the second night in a row.

Cook County Sheriff’s police received a report Tuesday, December 20, 2011 of criminal damage to a large display in a yard on Blackhawk Drive in unincorporated Schaumburg. A miniature post office, toy soldiers, and angels were tipped over. Electric cords were ripped from some of the displays.


Prospect Heights police received a report about 6:51 p.m. Monday of vandalism in progress in the 0-99 Compton Lane. Police received a report that the owner followed the offenders after he caught them vandalizing his Christmas decorations.
The offenders fled in a red sedan with a black top and a loud muffler. They were last seen heading on to Waterman from Rand Road.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 that Christmas decorations were damaged up and down the block in the 600 block of South Belmont Avenue.

Wheeling police received a report about 10:16 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 of criminal damage to property in the 100 block of Chestnut. Police received a report that Christmas decorations were cut.

Elk Grove Village police received a report about 2:39 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011 of criminal damage to Christmas lights in the 200 block of Shelley Road. Christmas lights were damaged overnight.

Arlington Heights police received a report in the afternoon Wednesday, December 7, 2011 that a Mickey Mouse holiday banner on a wooden pole valued at $25 was removed from the front of the garage in the 500 block of East Lynnwood Avenue. The crime is reported to have occurred between Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 6:00pm and Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 6:00 a.m.

Arlington Heights police also received a report that a metal wire reindeer and a white plastic tree with lights were removed from the front yard in the 600 block of East Valley Lane. Items are valued at $100 each. The crime is reported to have occurred Tuesday, December 6, 2011 between 12:01 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Arlington Heights police also received a report that electric wire to holiday lights in the front yard was cut in the 100 block of South Gibbons. The crime is reported to have occurred between Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 11:00pm and Monday, December 5, 2011 at 6:00pm.
