Second Floor Apartment Fire, Man with Burn Injuries on North Green Lane, Palatine

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:03 a.m. Tuesday to a fire alarm at an apartment building in the 1900 block of North Green Lane North. Minutes later residents called in to report smoke in the hallway and smoke coming out of back. Police on the scene first reported people saying smoke was coming from the third floor.

Firefighters observed smoke coming from a second floor balcony sliding glass door, and advanced a 1 ¾ inch preconnected hose line into the building. A large body of fire was attacked aggressively in a rear stairwell and was declared under control at 1:22 a.m.


Palatine police officers assisted residents from the building before firefighter/paramedics arrived. The last of the residents were exiting the scene as firefighters arrived on the scene. One adult male was found with burn injuries. Paramedics transported the male victim to Northwest Community Hospital He was later transported to Loyola University Medical Center.

Twenty-one members of the Palatine Fire Department along with crews from the Arlington Heights Fire Department responded to the scene. Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics transported the injured man to Northwest Community Hospital.

The health department was also called to the scene.

Palatine Neighborhood Services determined the building was uninhabitable because of the damage. Fire damage was confined to the rear stairwell, but several apartments suffered heavy smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Palatine Fire Department stresses the importance of having an escape plan. All residents should know what to do when they are awakened by an activated smoke detector.
