VIDEO: House fire after sparking outlet, couch fire and heat destroyed kitchen and dining room contents.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:29 p.m. Tuesday to a report of an outlet sparking and a couch on fire in the 900 block of West Lynnwood Avenue. First firefighters on the scene reported light smoke showing. Firefighters also updated neighbor information to report that no occupants were believed to be inside, but that some pets were reported inside. A routine, thorough search of the house was immediately performed, and no people were found in the house.

Firefighters had the fire extinguished by about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday after entering a side kitchen door. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire — containing the fire to contents inside the kitchen and dining room area and possibly part of a living room area. The fire was a minute or two from extending beyond the kitchen to the attic and adjacent rooms, and damaging the actual structure of the house.

A pet turtle survived the fire, but a bird near the dining room was killed in the fire.

Palatine firefighters and Buffalo Grove firefighters also responded to the scene of the fire.

Firefighters were working on overhaul for about 90 minutes after the fire was extinguished.
