Rare Tornado Strikes Cochabamba, Bolivia; Damages Homes and Warehouses

A tornado ravaged three neighborhoods in the outskirts of the Bolivian city of Cochabamba, damaging dozens of private homes and warehouses but was not responsible for any deaths.

A tornado struck Cochabamba, Bolivia uprooting trees, destroying buildings, and sending flying debris in the air. Cochabamba is the fourth largest city in Bolivia with an urban population of 608,276 (2008) and a metropolitan population of more than 1,000,000 people.

Cochabamba is known as the “City of Eternal Spring” and “The Garden City” due to its spring-like temperatures year round. The current season is Spring in Cochabamba. Cochabamba was host to world’s first World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth on April 19–22, 2010.
