CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

Videotaped Attack on Man at Red Line Station Might Have Been a Game:

A videotaped beating of a homeless man at a Red Line CTA station (Chicago Avenue) seemed to be a random act of violence last April 2, 2011; but now that it has been posted on the Internet, Chicago police are investigating, and searching for the victim. A game known as “Point ’em Out, Knock ’em Out” is suspected as being related to the video. Suspects apparently pick out a victim randomly, point to the victim, and then walk up and punch the victim with the intent to knock the victim out cold.

FOX Chicago News reporter Craig Wall went to the home of the alleged offender in the April 2nd case, but his parents communicated with FOX Chicago News on Sunday on behalf of their son, saying “he was going through a rough time last April.”

Point ’em Out, Knock ’em out crimes have also been attributed to muggings in New York and Milwaukee, Wisconsin near the Wisconsin State Fair.

The eventual consequences of a severe head injury range from complete recovery to permanent problems or disabilities of varying degrees to death. Common long-term problems include amnesia, behavioral problems (such as anxiety, restlessness, impulsivity, lack of inhibition, or lack of motivation), sudden mood swings, sleep disturbances, and decreased intellectual function. Recovery of memory after loss of consciousness due to a severe head injury depends on how quickly consciousness is regained. People who regain consciousness in the first week are most likely to recover their memory. A seizure disorder may develop up to 4 years after a severe head injury.
