SUV Wheel Crashes, Bounces Off Windshield of Honda Accord on Palatine Rd Between Schoenbeck and Windsor


Arlington Heights police responded about 5:57 a.m. Tuesday after an unknown object shattered a windshield in the area of Palatine Road and Waterman. Police found a black Honda Accord with a severely damaged windshield. The officer reported a woman with a hand injury, and requested paramedics to respond to the Mobil gas station at Palatine and Windsor Road. With some excellent driving a woman, traveling with a dog, managed to drive her Honda Accord about one-quarter mile with a severely damaged windshield from eastbound Palatine Road and Waterman Avenue to Windsor. At Windsor she pulled in to the Mobil gas station.

Police also received a report about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday of an SUV blocking traffic in the eastbound express lanes of Palatine Road, west of Schoenbeck. When police arrived they discovered a Chevy Tahoe that was missing its left rear wheel. After investigation, it was determined that the wheel flew off the SUV and hit the windshield of the Honda Accord.

The injured driver in the Honda Accord was checked by paramedics, but did not require transportation to the hospital. The dog was OK, too.

Traffic was delayed Tuesday morning. As police were clearing the Chevy Tahoe, a van became disabled about 100 feet further east on Palatine Road eastbound express lanes.
