#ad▼

Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:22 a.m. Tuesday to a house fire in the 1700 block of Jarvis Court. Rescuers received a report that a mattress was burning in a bedroom and at least one person was in the house. Police arrived in about three minutes and rescued one man from the house just before firefighters arrived. Police reported the bedroom was on fire. Firefighters arrived within four minutes and reported that police officers had knocked the fire with fire extinguishers, but smoke was still showing from the exterior of the house.

Arlington Heights firefighters responded to the scene, and Long Grove firefighters responded for standby at a Palatine Fire Station.

The fire was limited to a mattress and bedding material with no extension to the structure of the house. The fire is reported to have been caused by careless use of smoking materials in bed. The home had a working smoke detector.

The resident was treated for minor smoke inhalation and transported to Northwest Community Hospital.
