Abandoned Baby Girl: Infant Found at Gospel Presbyterian Church of Chicago on Plum Grove Rd, Schaumburg

#ad▼

Schaumburg police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:21 p.m. Sunday to a report of an infant abandoned in the lobby of the Gospel Presbyterian Church of Chicago, 210 South Plum Grove Road. The infant had been left in a reusable grocery bag on a car. A member of the church brought the bag inside to the lobby of the church without knowing there was a baby inside the bag under a red bath towel. When the infant cried about thirty minutes later, church members were shocked and called 9-1-1.

Firefighter/paramedics arrived immediately and checked the health of the infant, which according to witnesses appeared in good health. The infant is an Asian girl weighing 7 pounds, apparently only a few days old, and born outside of a hospital — based on the condition of the umbilical cord. She was transported to a hospital by Schaumburg Fire Department firefighter/paramedics.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services will take custody of the infant after she has been medically cleared for release from the hospital.

Citizens with information about the baby or mother are urged to call Schaumburg police at (847) 882-3534.

Illinois offers a safe option for a desperate parent in crisis. By handing your unharmed baby, 30 days old or younger, to personnel at any hospital, emergency medical facility, staffed fire station, or police station a parent can walk away with no questions asked.

According to Save Abandoned Babies Foundation, the baby will be cared for and placed in a loving home for adoption.
