Dong (Donna) Yu Identified As Lake Run Condo Shooting Victim; Killed by Boss Keon Suk Oh in Prospect Heights

Dong (Donna) Yu, a 42-year-old Prospect Heights woman who lived in the 16-18 block of East Old Willow Road was shot to death by Keon Suk Oh, 46, who then shot himself.

Prospect Heights police responded to the Prospect Heights condominium complex, Lake Run Condominium, and found a man and a woman dead of apparent gunshot wounds in a fourth-floor hallway just after 3:36 p.m. Monday. A Ruger .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene. The gun was found in Keon Suk Oh’s hand or near his hand. In order to prevent contamination of the crime scene, a minimal team of paramedics were assigned to the victims to take vital signs to confirm that they were deceased.

Witnesses at the apartment report that apartment hallways have surveillance cameras, and that police were working with the condo’s security staff to obtain video surveillance images.

Police were reasonably certain early in the response to the crime that no offender was at large after the incident. They are now certain there is no threat to the neighborhood regarding the shooting incident.

Police received multiple 911 calls reporting “a verbal altercation and shouting,” and “shots fired.” Police also received a call of “a woman reporting that she was being attacked”. One of the calls may have come from a person who was on the phone with Dong (Donna) Yu before the attack.

Mount Prospect police and the Major Case Assistance Team assisted Prospect Heights Police Department with the investigation. Mount Prospect police immediately took the initiative to assist Prospect Heights police, as the neighborhood is close to the border with Mount Prospect.

Dong (Donna) Yu apparently worked as a waitress for Keon Suk Oh, a Vernon Hills resident, at a Glenview restaurant.

The condominium complex, according to witnesses and residents, has a large number of elderly residents and a mix of several ethnic groups living in the building.
