Chicago firefighters and police responded about 4:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a fire in a three-story apartment building at 1323 West 18th Street. The fire spread to buildings at 1319 West 18th Street and 1317 West 18th Street. At least one person was rescued by firefighters.

Heavy smoke was showing out of the back of the buildings and fire was also showing out of an attic area. Firefighters used two ladder trucks for an aerial water attack on the burning buildings.

The fire was originally a still and box alarm, but was raised to a 2-11 alarm shortly after firefighters arrived. An EMS Plan I was also called at the scene, which brings at least five additional ambulances to the scene.
