Arlington Heights police received a report about 5:20 a.m. Sunday that an unknown offender entered a first-floor apartment unit and was in the kitchen in an apartment in the 900 block of South McKinley. The offender came in a sliding glass door and exited out of a back door. The crime was reported to have occurred about 5:12 a.m. Sunday.

The offender was described as a male/unknown race, 5’7″ with short, black hair and wearing a black jacket.

At about 5:23 a.m. Sunday police saw from a distance that a male/white subject in blue boxer shorts and gray T-shirt running was from them in the 800 block of South McKinley. He was sighted again hopping fences about 814 South McKinley, heading toward Cleveland. The subject was last seen in the backyard between 810 South Cleveland and the corresponding Roosevelt address (811 S.). An intense foot chase was underway, the lead chase officer reported he made it to Dryden pretty quickly and did not see the offender cross Dryden. Police were reasonably certain the subject was lying low in the backyards between Roosevelt and Cleveland in the 800 block.

Arlington Heights police set up a perimeter and continued searching, including a K-9 unit. Mount Prospect police also assisted on the case.

The subject was sighted by police crouching down in the southeast corner of Rockwell and Roosevelt just before 5:50 a.m. The subject ran to a backyard behind 1101 East Rockwell. The subject, who had apparently shed some of his clothing, was in custody about 5:50 a.m. Sunday.
