‘Blagojevichian-Era’ Highway Sign Ban Now Official

Drivers will be spared “Rod Blagojevichian-like” highway signs, thanks to legislation signed into law on June 16, which was sponsored by State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine).

“I have stated before, this is common-sense legislation that prevents elected officials from shamelessly promoting themselves on our highways,” Murphy said. “I applaud the Governor’s action on this legislation.”

Senate Bill 1344 or Public Act 97-0013 will prohibit constitutional officers or members of the General Assembly from having their names posted on billboards or electronic message boards.

“This is perfect timing for this ban to be signed into law, especially as the Blagojevich jury continues their deliberations,” Murphy said. “This is another small step to help move Illinois forward and put Blagojevich further out of our collective consciousness.”
