Illinois Senate Approves Gambling Expansion, Includes Slots for Arlington Park

The Illinois Senate approved a gambling expansion plan Tuesday by a 30-27 vote, the minimum needed for passage. The plan is the work of Sen. Terry Link, a Waukegan Democrat who has pushed for a Lake County casino for more than a decade.

The gambling plan would several categories of gambling that are new to the state of Illinois …

The plan would allow land-based casinos in Chicago, the South suburbs, Rockford and Danville. A casino would also be permitted in Lake County.

Slot machines would be permitted at the state’s seven racetracks, including Arlington Park.

Slot machines would be permitted at O’hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.

The plan now awaits the approval of Governor Pat Quinn, who has recently expressed opposition to big gambling plans for the state.
