History of Violations: Kazimierz Karasek, Driver of Truck That Violated Railroad Crossing Gate, Crashed with Metra Train in Mount Prospect

Police investigators released the identity of Kazimierz Karasek, 59, while the ABC7 I-Team discovered that Karasek had a history of a DUI charge, a wrong way driving charge, a failure to yield to avoid an accident charge, and several other moving violations.


The I-Team also discovered that the intersection of Northwest Highway and Mount Prospect Road also has a history of a high number of serious crashes since 1955.

Driver in Metra collision had history of violations

Metra and Union Pacific press conference just east of Northwest Highway and Mount Prospect Road at 10:35 a.m. Friday.

By mid-morning officials released information that the driver of the truck had been killed, but they did not release his identity. Officials also release information that 29 people had been transported to the hospital, and that the train engineer was injured and transported to the hospital.

Most or all passengers had minor injuries. A 5th alarm EMS box brought about 25 ambulances to the scene. Victims were transported to Lutheran General Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital and other hospitals.
