Vehicle Burglary in Progress at Resurrection Medical Center; Shots Fired By Off Duty Police After Hit-and-Run Attempt

Chicago police responded about 2:00 p.m. Monday to a Parking Lot O of f Resurrection Medical Center, in the 7500 block of West Talcott Avenue. Police received a report that citizens and off-duty police officers were exiting the hospital when they witnessed two men in the parking lot that appeared to be breaking into vehicles.

The police officers identified themselves as police and ordered the men to stop, but the offender got into a vehicle and tried to escape. In the process of escaping, they endangered pedestrians, including one of the officers, by aiming the vehicle at the witnesses.

One of the off-duty police officers shot at the vehicle, but no bullets hit anyone.

The suspects’ vehicle was later abandoned in the 5000 block of North McVicker Avenue. Both suspects were arrested in the neighborhood a short time later.

Both men were taken into custody and transported to a Chicago Police Department jail.
