Snow Is A Record for Today, But It’s No Record for the Latest Snow in Spring

Chicago set a record for April 18 at .6″ at O’Hare International Airport. The old record was .4″ for April 18, 1910.

The latest snowfall to fall in Chicago officially is .2 inch on May 11th, 1966, but some areas of the Chicago metro area reported 2 inches of snow from strong easterly winds off of the lake.


The latest official snowfall greater than one inch occurred May 1 and May 2, 1940 when 2.2 inches of total snowfall occurred.
