UPDATE: A second purse snatching may have occurred by same offenders, Saturday afternoon at hotel at 2930 South River Road (See The Cardinal Purse Snatchers with Red Ford Explorer May Have Struck Again in Des Plaines).

Des Plaines police responded just before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 to a report of a purse snatching/strong armed robbery with violence used by the offender.

A woman placed her purse on the passenger seat of her car while her husband checked into a hotel in the 1200 block of East Touhy Avenue. A female offender, who was sitting in a red older model Ford Explorer, walked up to the car, opened the passenger door and grabbed the purse.

The female victim chased the offender before the offender could close the door to her Ford Explorer. Both women were struggling to keep the purse when a male offender in the driver’s seat began to drive away. As the Ford Explorer pulled away, the female victim was dragged through the parking lot. The female offender then kicked the victim in the right shoulder, which caused the victim to fall to the ground.

Offender #1 was described as a female/black, 25 years-old, 5’4″ 180 LBS with a black pony tail. Offender #2 was described as a male/black, 25-years-old, 5’8″ 150 LBS with short black hair. The offenders took with a purple purse containing $1,000 cash. The vehicle was last seen near Touhy and Lee Street.

The female victim was not seriously injured. She has was treated for scrapes and bruises. Several witnesses observed the crime, and hotel security-surveillance cameras were expected to have captured the incident.

The victim’s purse was found later on a southbound shoulder of Interstate 294 by an IDOT employee.
