Leading Officer in DUI Arrests, Ray Finnerty, Honored with L.W. Calderwood Award

Ray Finnerty, of the Arlington Heights Police Department patrol bureau, was honored Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the annual L.W. Calderwood Officer of the Year Award luncheon sponsored by the Arlington Heights Rotary Club at the Wellington of Arlington restaurant.

Finnerty has established an outstanding performance record that includes many distinguished performance citations and complimentary letters from citizens.


Officer Ray Finnerty leads the police department in DUI arrests, and is the recipient of multiple Illinois Department of Transportation awards for his efforts to apprehend impaired drivers.

Officer Finnerty has also been a forensics technician, a field training officer for new police officers, and an instructor for the Arlington Heights Police Department Citizen Police Academy.

The L.W. Calderwood Award is an annual award presented to an Arlington Heights police officer demonstrating the most significant contributions for the year toward the overall betterment of the community.

The award is named for Bill Calderwood, Arlington Heights chief of police from January 1958 to November 1976.

Nominations for officer of the year are made by police department members. Selection of the recipient is by majority vote of police department supervisory staff.
