Alert Police Nab Juvenile in Minivan Vandalism, Possible Car Burglary

Arlington Heights police received a report of a burglary to vehicle in progress about 9:45 p.m. Saturday near Fairview and Mitchell Avenue. Arlington Heights police received a report that three male juveniles were getting in and out of a silver/gray Ford minivan. One of the males was wearing an orange hoodie.

A man came out of his front door and the subjects ran away to the minivan and fled northbound on Mitchell Avenue.

An alert police officer spotted the minivan near Evergreen and Park, and saw the van turn northbound on Dunton Avenue from Park. A second police officer was backup within a minute and the minivan was stopped on northbound Dunton Avenue.

An empty egg carton was found in the minivan, and police were investigating whether the offense was vandalism or vehicle burglary or both. At least one male juvenile was transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. The three male/juveniles said they were students at Prospect High Scbool.

Police responded to a house on the 500 block of South Chestnut that was heavily hit by eggs — on cars, the front wall of the house, and the roof of the house.

No word available whether any items were reported missing from the vehicle near Fairview and Mitchell, and no word on whether any vehicle burglary proceeds were discovered in the minivan. A vehicle burglary was reported in the neighborhood on the 200 block of South Dunton Avenue about 9:00 p.m. so police were investigating any possible connection.
