Johnsburg police and McHenry Township Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics responded just after midnight New Year’s Eve to a report of a fireworks accident at 4918 Country Oaks Drive in Johnsburg.
Robert Freund, 31, ignited a large fireworks device at 4918 Country Oaks Drive when an explosion caused multiple injuries to his head and chest. Freund was found dead at the scene.
The Cook County Bomb Squad rendered the scene safe from further explosions and is involved in the investigation.
