Criminal Damage: Jordan Weiman Drives Over 41 Streetside Mail Boxes

Buffalo Grove police responded to report of a hit-and-run, car vs. mail box in the 900 block of Harvard Lane about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police received a report that a white 2-door sedan hit several mail boxes.

At about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday additional mail boxes were reported damaged in the area of Harvard Lane and Palmgren Court. Other mail boxes were also discovered damaged at residences located in Lake County.

Forty one mailboxes were either destroyed or damaged. Later Tuesday evening, a resident called police and stated that he found a bumper with license plate attached, next to his damaged mailbox. Police contacted the registered owner of a Mercury Milan, associated with the license plate, and the owner stated that she believes that her twenty-year-old brother took her car without her permission.

The brother was interviewed by police investigators and subsequently admitted to striking the mailboxes with his sister’s car. He stated that he was upset and did not know how many mailboxes he had struck. He said that the first few mailboxes were run over accidentally and that out of frustration he kept going, knocking over more and more along the way.

The offender was arrested and charged with forty one counts of ‘Knowingly Damaging Property’.

Jordan Meyer Weiman, who resides on the 200 Block of Downing Road, Buffalo Grove, is scheduled to appear in both Lake County and Cook County Courts.

Police work that resulted in an arrest was a joint effort between Patrol and Investigations.
