Arlington Heights police received a report about 1:45 a.m. Sunday of two vehicle burglaries that had just occurred in the 300 block of South Dunton Avenue. Police apprehended a suspect minutes later — a male about 18-years-old at Arlington Heights Road and Park Street, who was arrested about 1:55 a.m. The adult male was transported in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters. He has since been identified as Samuel H. Lee, who has lived in Arlington Heights, Naperville, and Chicago.

Apparently some of the items that were stolen were recovered. Samuel Lee had in his possession a camera and two GPS devices. Police also discovered additional vehicle burglaries in the area early Sunday. At least two vehicle burglaries on Evergreen Avenue were discovered and possibly one vehicle burglary in the 200 block of South Vail Avenue were discovered early Sunday. Then additional reports came in early Monday. Arlington Heights police responded about 1:30 AM Monday to reports of additional vehicle burglaries that likely occurred on Sunday.

Early Monday police worked between 1:30 am. and about 3:00 a.m. on additional vehicle burglaries that occurred in the same neighborhood, but were possibly late reports from the Sunday burglaries. One vehicle burglary was reported in the 0-99 block of West South Street. One vehicle burglary was reported in the 300 block of South Evergreen. Two vehicle burglaries were reported in the 400 block of South Evergreen. One vehicle burglary was reported in the 100 block of South Vail Avenue, and one vehicle burglary was reported in the 200 block of South Vail Avenue.

Samuel Lee is a suspect in about 52 vehicle burglaries ranging in dates from June 8, 2010 and January 2, 2011. The area of the crimes is bounded roughly by Arlington Heights Road, Northwest Highway, Arthur Avenue, and Central Road.

Police believe that not all burglaries committed have been reported by the victims of the burglaries. Police are urging people who have been a victim of a vehicle burglary to file a police report.

Samuel Lee was taken to bond court Tuesday, and is currently facing four felony counts of burglary to a motor vehicle. Lee’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 2, 2011.

Arlington Heights police are continuing the investigation.
