Dear Paul B Sports Readers—
Have you heard the one about the Cub Player who worked for nothing and ……..
I have news for you—I actually believe that Kerry Wood might be, for the lack of a better expression–THE SAVIOR OF THE CUBS.
Here is a player, albeit passed his prime, that leaves about FIVE MILLION DOLLARS on the table to play for THE CUBS. Could he
have played elsewhere? You bet he could. He was courted by several other NL and AL clubs, and could have inked a deal for between
4 and 7 million PER YEAR. So what does this (already rich) ex-Cub player do? He signs with the CUBS for ONLY ONE MILLION $$$!
I think he must know that this could be their year. I really don’t care (because I am a die hard Sox fan,) but I wouldn’t mind if they did
finally get into a World Series and win the darn thing, already. Wood was always a gamer, a real “mensch” who never complained and
just came out and played his heart out. He must have a special feeling about THE 2011 Cubs, because who would leave 5 Mill on the
table? Just about every athlete has more money than they could responsibly spend in a lifetime, so Kerry has a OUIJA board, right?
We’ll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, I tip my (SOX) hat to him, and hope that my SOX see him and his CUBS in the BIG ONE!!
