MEMORY GARDENS BURIAL SERVICE VIDEO …

Lance Corporal James Bray Stack came home to Arlington Heights Thursday after he was killed in action one week ago.

The plane carrying James Stack’s body landed at Chicago Executive Airport at about 10 a.m. Thursday, and taxied into Hangar 19, where the U.S. Marine’s family was waiting.

A United States Marine Corps honor guard transferred the body from the airplane to a hearse for the trip to Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. The route included a memory tour to three highlight locations: American Legion Post 208 at Miner and Douglas; Recreation Park, 500 East Miner Street; and Christian Liberty Academy, 502 West Euclid Avenue.

Residents and local school students lined up Miner Street, Dryden, Ridge Avenue, and Arlington Heights Road. When the motorcade passed, the students put their hands over their hearts or waved small U.S. flags.

U.S. flags flew at half-mast at government buildings. A woman handed out U.S. flags near the American Legion post. Homes along the route had small U.S. flags lined along the curb in front of the homes.

Schools near the route were Windsor Elementary, St. Peter Lutheran School, Thomas Middle School, St. Viator High School and Christian Liberty Academy.

The escorts of the motorcade included Arlington Heights police cars and police motorcycles, Mount Prospect police officers and a Mount Prospect fire engine, a large group of motorcycles from veterans’ groups including the Warriors’ Watch Riders, Illinois State Police, the Illinois Patriot Guard and more.

The motorcade paused when it drove past American Legion Merle Guild Post 208 — the Arlington Heights American Legion post near Recreation Park at Douglas Avenue and Miner Street, where Katie and James Stack held their wedding reception in 2009.

The motorcade also paused at Recreation Park and at Christian Liberty Academy where the couple met while participating on the track & field team.

James Stack was home schooled with the Christian Liberty home school curriculum. His wife Katie transferred to Christian Liberty Academy from Prospect High School.

Visitation for United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal James Bray Stack is scheduled to take place from 2 to 9 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road.

The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Road in Mount Prospect — followed immediately by a burial service with military honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights.

In lieu of flowers, the Stack family has requested donations be made in James Bray Stack’s memory at Marineparentsinc.com/stack.asp to benefit Marine Parents Outreach Programs in support of injured Marines and Corpsmen.
