High Winds Cause Some Power Problems Overnight

High winds and some aftermath from caused some lingering problems for Com Ed in the northwest suburbs. In Arlington Heights, a transformer was reported on fire near the Nissan dealership in the 1100 block of West Dundee Road aboiut 9:40 p.m. Thursday.

About 12:40 a.m. Friday Arlington Heights police and firefighters responded to a report of downed power lines in the backyard of a house in the 1400 block of North Belmont Avenue. Firefighters discovered that the feeder lines to the house were taken down by a tree branch. Only one house without power at the location. Com Ed notified for the homeowner.

About 2:55 a.m. Friday police and firefighters responded to the 2300 block of LaFayette for line down in the street, sparking.

About 4:30 a.m. Friday police and firefighters responded to the 1100 block of South Arlington Heights Road/Pine Avenue in the back alley of the commercial property for power lines on fire between the utility poles.

A 47 mph gust was reported at O’Hare in the 11 p.m. hour and a 40 mph gust was reported in the 3 a.m. hour. Otherwise winds were about 12 mph to 30 mph.
