Lightning Strike Starts Large Tree on Fire that Involved a Gas Line

A lightning strike hit a tree at 547 Rob Roy Court about 8:00 p.m Sunday. Somehow a gas line under the tree became involved in the fire. Palatine Rural Fire Protection District was fighting a large tree fire directly in front of the condo unit when they realized natural gas was bubbling up from a gas line underground. The situation was under control by 8:15 p.m. NICOR was due to respond within the hour.
