The FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Joint Terrorism Task Force are all involved in raids or arrests in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan that are connected to Christian militia group activities of the Hutaree. A command center with two satellite trucks and a radio tower, had been set up at the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Early on members of a number of Michigan militia groups claimed the raids were connected to raids in Indiana and Ohio. Nine members of a self-described Christian militia group, including one from northwest Indiana, are suspected of planning to kill a Michigan police officer and then attack other officers attending the police officer’s funeral.

The FBI reports that the Hutaree’s enemies include state and local law enforcement officers, federal law enforcement agency officers, participants in the “New World Order,” and anyone else who does not share in the Hutaree’s beliefs. In the eyes of the Hutaree militia, the local police are deemed “foot soldiers” of the federal government.

Thomas Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Ind., was arrested Sunday at an apartment complex in west suburban Clarendon Hills as part of the task force arrests.
