Heavy Lake Effect Snow, Numerous Crashes, Golf Blocked at Goebbert

Lake Effect Snow Advisory until noon Thursday. A lake effect snowfall hit Cook County with light snow starting about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and heavy snow falling at 8:00 p.m. At least 2.5 inches had fallen by 9:00 p.m. Up to 6 inches accumulation is possible in some neighborhoods by Thursday morning.

Injury crashes occurred at Buffalo Grove Road and Birchwood in Buffalo Grove and at 855 East Golf Road in Arlington Heights.

The Golf Road crash at about 8:30 p.m. involved three vehicles, including a silver Mercedes that left the roadway. Arlington Heights Fire Department sent two rescue-ambulances to the scene. Police blocked eastbound Golf Road at Goebbert Road. Traffic on Golf Road was a mess with a bad traffic backup. The eastbound lanes were re-opened at 9:40 p.m.

Numerous other minor crashes also occurred Wednesday night. A second accident also occurred at Golf and Arlington Heights Road. Crashes also occurred at Palatine and Kennicott, and at Arlington Heights Road and Olive.
