On Tuesday March 31, 2009 neighbors of Jason Jakob reported that Jason was firing a weapon inside his house in the 900 block of North Harvard. After about a 6-hour stand-off overnight with neighbors evacuated from their homes (many from a sound sleep), rounds of tear gas were fired in every window of Jakob’s house, and he was placed in custody.
Hospitalized and evaluated for about one week, Jakob was eventually charged for his illegal actions starting on March 31, 2009 and ending on April 1, 2009. Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta set Jakob’s bond at $175,000 Tuesday, April 7, 2009 and ordered him to surrender all firearms in his possession and under his control, including firearms he may have stored elsewhere within 24 hours.
By mid-November 2009, a neighbor reported that Jason Jakob again had weapons in his possession. When police came to investigate, they found handguns, assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition. The possession marked a violation of his bail conditions, and he was re-arrested on November 13, 2009.
