Arlington Heights police noticed a freight train stopped on the tracks between Ridge Avenue and east of Arthur Avenue about 1:15 p.m. Saturday. Ridge Avenue was open, but all of the following roadways were expected to be blocked up to about 2:00 p.m. or for about 45 minutes:

Ridge — open
Vail Avenue — blocked
Dunton Avenue — blocked
Evergreen Avenue — blocked
Arlington Heights Road — blocked
Arthur Avenue — blocked

The train had some type of emergency that did not require outside assistance from the fire department or the police department.

Overall a bad traffic day for a Saturday. Arlington Heights police and Buffalo Grove police were busy displaying backup stop signs at intersections with stoplight near Hintz and Arlington Heights Road and north toward Arlington Heights Road and Old Arlington Heights Road about 8 a.m.

In the afternoon about 2:30 p.m. traffic was snarled from a malfunction of the stoplight at Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue.
