The Arlington Heights village board gave preliminary approval early Tuesday morning for the construction of a funeral home next to an existing cemetery.

A Chicago Archdiocesan priest, whose ministry empowered lay people to take a more active role in the work of the church, has passed away. The Rev. Francis Jenks passed away Thursday of complications from congestive heart failure. He was 64.

A Streamwood man received five years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a minor. Antonio Lopez, of the 1700 block of Nippert Drive, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault Monday in a Rolling Meadows courtroom, said Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Gerber.
