Alert Police Officer Finds Person Reported to Be Suicidal Near Train Tracks

An alert Arlington Heights police officer, who was on a call for a report of a burglary to a vehicle in the Arlington Park Metra commuter lot, discovered the car of a male reported to have threatened suicide about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Palatine Police Department put out an alert to Arlington Heights police after they received a call that a man may be considering suicide near the railroad tracks either in Palatine or Arlington Heights. A vehicle description was broadcast and the Arlington Heights police officer, while working on a car burglary report, sighted a vehicle parked unattended matching the description given from Palatine Police Department.

In heavy rain, the Arlington Heights police officer found the man associated with the vehicle near the train station. The police officer met with the man and was able to peacefully discuss the situation and call for paramedics to assist the man.

He was likely transported to the hospital, but that was not confirmed.
