Arlington Heights Snowfall Just Under an Inch Causes Numerous Accidents

Arlington Heights snowfall was an icy mix/pellet snow of about 7/8 of an inch.
 
Numerous accidents reported in the northwest suburban area: Rand and Dundee (Palatine), Arlington Heights Road and Miner (with injuries), Golf Road and Meier, Palatine and Kennicott (5-car accident), Arlington Heights Road and Checker (Buffalo Grove), Aptakistic and Weiland (Buffalo Grove), Aptakistic and Buffalo Grove Road (with injuries in Buffalo Grove), Golf Road and Robert Drive (Mount Prospect), Lake Cook and Schaefer, Thompson Boulevard and Buffalo Grove Road (two accidents, one with injuries in Buffalo Grove), Buffalo Grove Road and Dundee (with injuries in Buffalo Grove).

An accident at Rand and Hintz started as a hit-and-run with witnesses at Crave bar, but the missing vehicle returned to the scene.

Two accidents at Milwaukee and Aptakistic (Buffalo Grove/Lincolnshire) — intersection was closed as sheet of ice persisted until salt crews could manage the road conditions.

UPDATE: Morning rush also affected by snowfall last night. Icy precipitation followed by temperatures in the teens overnight brought slick roads and black ice to the morning rush.

Accidents reported in numerous locations Thursday morning: Palatine and Kennicott, Davis and Arthur, Euclid and Wilke, Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road, Rand Road just west of Arlington Heights Road (three accidents — one involving a Wheeling Township vehicle), Rand and Kennicott, Rand and Wilke, Rand and Dryden, Rand and Woods (three cars, two in a ditch), Lake Cook and Schaefer (two accidents), Lake Cook west of Arlington Heights Road (with injuries), and Dundee and Kennicott (with injuries).

Buffalo Grove had serious icing problems along Deerfield Road, especially near Milwaukee Avenue where numerous accidents were reported at the intersection and along Deerfield Road. Buffalo Grove Police also shut down eastbound Dundee Road at Weidner Road for a prolonged period about 8:30 a.m.
