A boy in a stroller was reported in critical condition at Children’s Memorial Hospital after he was rescued by Chicago Fire Department. He was unconscious when pulled from the harbor, and reportedly had been underwater for nearly 15 minutes. The grandfather was also rescued by Chicago Fire Department in the aftermath of his attempt to rescue his grandson. He was reported in fair condition at St. Joseph Hospital, where he was being treated for exposure.

Chicago Fire got a call at 2:36 p.m. Friday to respond to the 3200 block of North Lake Shore Drive for a report of a person in the water.

The grandfather was pulled out of the water almost immediately, and then divers had to go underwater to search for the baby, who was still strapped into the stroller.

The water temperature was 42 degrees and the water was 10 to 12 feet deep in that area of Belmont Harbor.
