Geraldo Rivera and Bill O’Reilly in a heated argument over whether the issue of a drunk driving accident is a DUI story or an illegal alien story.
O’Reilly claimed that Virginia Beach Mayor Meyera Oberndorf mishandled a situation involving an illegal immigrant Alfredo Ramos accused of causing a fatal drunk driving accident on March 30, 2007. O’Reilly said that Virginia Beach should have deported the immigrant once they realized he was in the country illegally, since he had prior alcohol-related convictions, including DUI and public drunkenness. However, Virginia Beach didn’t learn of the immigrant’s status until after the accident.
Ramos, 22, driving a 1998 Mitsubishi rear-ended a 1994 Plymouth driven by Allison Kunhardt, 17, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, which was stopped as Allison was waiting at a stoplight at Virginia Beach Boulevard and Kings Grant Road [MAP/SAT]. Allison Kunhardt of First Colonial High School and a friend and passenger in the car, Tessa Tranchant, 16, of Kellam High School were stopped at a traffic light when they were hit from behind. Both wore seat belts, but died from the injuries suffered in the accident.
In October 2006, Alfredo Ramos was charged with public intoxication. In November 2007, he was charged with driving without a license, identity theft, no seat belt, and no insurance. In January 2007, he was charged with disorderly conduct — pubic swearing and intoxication.
