Police Searching Possible Explosives in Home on Lake Shore Blvd Near Highland Ave, Wauconda — Large Perimeter Evacuated

UPDATE: The evacuation was being lifted by about 12:18 am Friday, and residents were allowed to return home. Lakeshore Blvd remained closed to thru traffic between Route 176 and Hill Street. Highland Avenue remained closed between Lakeshore Blvd and Clearview Ave. As of 7:45 a.m. police have not notified the public whether explosive were found or not.

Wauconda police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:30 PM Thursday (precise time not confirmed) to a report that a resident may have explosives in the home on Lake Shore Boulevard near Highland Avenue Wauconda, IL. Wauconda police are being assisted by the Waukegan Bomb Squad and the Illinois State Police Swat Team.

Earlier today, a threat was made to an employee at a business by the suspect that he wanted to lure the police to his home with the intention of setting off explosives and blowing them up. The suspect said he is terminally ill and hates politicians and the police.

Law enforcement is working to search and secure the home if necessary. There is no confirmation that there are any actual explosives in the home, but police apparently have sufficient reason to believe a serious threat possibly exists.

Wauconda police at 9:06 p.m. reported on Facebook that a suspect is in custody, and that an evacuation inside the perimeter was in progress. Police say once evacuation is completed, a search of the residence in the 400 block of Lakeshore Boulevard will be conducted.

The house is located on the west side of Lakeshore Boulevard, just north of Highland Avenue.

Police say a search warrant was obtained to enter the home.

Firefighter/paramedics are staging in the area.

Some roads are closed in the area.

Hill St and Lakeshore Blvd
Route 176 was closed between Main St and Fairfield Rd.

A requested evacuation perimeter was established with a radius of about 1800 feet from the center of a circle near Highland Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard.

Wauconda police requested citizens evacuate your home or business immediately. Wauconda police recommended that if citizens need a place to shelter during this incident, the Federated Church is available and is located directly across from Wauconda Fire Department Station #1. Wauconda police was providing transportation for citizens that need transportation. Citizens can call 847-487-1372. Police request limiting any other calls to emergencies only.
