Fire in Aurora Kills 6, Injures 12 at Apartment Fire on Claim St, Aurora

Three-story apartment building involved in a fatal fire between the Iglesia Bautista Emanuel and Supermercado Casa Blanca on Claim Street.

Aurora firefighters and police responded just after 4:00 a.m. Sunday to an apartment fire at 760 Claim Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene reported heavy fire on the first floor. Residents were immediately rescued from windows at the rear of the building. In all about 10 people were rescued from the three-story apartment building. Three adults and two children are reported killed. Eleven people are reported injured — two in critical condition. Five people were transported to Provena Mercy Medical Center and six people were transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

The three children are males age 20 months old, 1-2 years old, and 5-7 years old.

The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago was on the scene Sunday morning providing food, coffee, and beverages to firefighters and assistance to the survivors. Red Cross teams were also at hospitals.

Fire officials are investigating. Illinois State Marshal responded to the scene.
