CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

Prospect Heights police SUV Crash with Metra Passenger Train #116 with opening scene facing southeast from the west side of the Metra North Central Service line.

A Prospect Heights Police Department SUV was hit by Metra Passenger Train #116 about 3:47 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Train #116 is an inbound train to Chicago that was headed southbound on the Metra North Central Service line. The most significant damage to the police SUV was on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. The police SUV may have been eastbound on Camp McDonald Road when it was hit by the passenger train.

The police SUV was pushed into the yard of a property at the southwest corner of Camp McDonald Road and Wolf Road. Apparently Wheeling Police Department was managing the crash scene, traffic and investigation and tow request.

Mount Prospect firefighter/paramedics and Prospect Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:47 PM Wednesday to a report of crash with injuries at 42.095138, -87.909148 (1005 East Camp Mcdonald Road Prospect Heights, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a train crash with a car occurred at the Wisconsin Central railroad tracks.

First crews on the scene reported a Prospect Heights police SUV crashed with Metra Passenger Train #116.

No passengers on board the train reported any injuries immediately after the crash.

There was no extrication. Mount Prospect Fire Department handled the call, as both Prospect Heights and Mount Prospect firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

The police officer was reported to have minor injuries.

Metra train 116 remained stopped at the crossing during the evening rush hour at 5:15 p.m., Metra said in an alert on its website.

Train 111, scheduled to depart Union Station at 4:58 p.m., was canceled, according to Metra. Instead, train 113 will make additional stops at Wheeling, Prairie View, Mundelein, Washington Street and Lake Villa to accommodate passengers waiting for trains.

Railroad crews and police were on the scene investigating.
