CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

UPDATE: In a press conference at 3:57 p.m. Tuesday, Lake County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Covelli did not mention that any suspects were apprehended. When questioned away from the podium, he responded that if the Illinois State Police had a suspect, he would probably have known about it. He did not outright deny that a suspect was apprehended. During the press conference, Lake County Det. Chris Covelli confirmed that Fox Lake police officer Lt Joe Gliniewicz was killed during a foot pursuit Tuesday morning.

At about 4:12 p.m. Tuesday, CNN stated that report from the Illinois State Police that one suspect had been captured, was inaccurate. CNN had said the report came from Illinois State Police Sgt. Matt Boerwinkle. He is the Chief Public Information Officer for the Illinois State Police.

As of 4:45 p.m. CT, the official Illinois State Police twitter account has no mention of the Fox Lake incident, and there is no mention of the conversation or possible miscommunication involving CNN.

One suspect is in custody in the Fox Lake, Illinois manhunt after a police officer was fatally shot near an old abandoned Concrete plant along Rolling Road west of Route 59.

CNN reported that Illinois State Police Sgt. Matt Boerwinkle told CNN at about 3:15 p.m. that one suspect is in custody.

No details were available about the capture at 3:20 p.m.

A special Emergency Medical System response known as an EMS Box Alarm was activated about 1:59 p.m. At least five extra ambulances responded to the staging area near Honing Road and Sayton Road about one block west of the murder of the police officer. A fire truck known as a Mobile Ventilation Unit responded about 2:34 p.m. to provide cool air circulation in the staging area.

The manhunt continued as search crews were continuously rotating their service to provide continuous search coverage.

Lt Joe Gliniewicz was shot and killed as he was responding to a suspicious person call a little before 8:00 a.m. Tuesday and radioed in that he was involved in a foot pursuit. He was only able to report that he was chasing a male/white subject, a male/black subject and possibly a third subject, who did not immediately have any descriptor when a local police alert for officer safety was broadcast.

Fox Lake police and multiple law enforcement agencies responded about 8:11 AM Tuesday to a report of an “officer down” believed to have been shot near 128 Honing Rd Fox Lake, IL. Police backup units responded to the report of an “officer down” and discovered a police officer fatally wounded.
