Chicago Fire Department firefighters and paramedics responded about 5:40 p.m. Monday to North Avenue Beach. 1601 North Lake Shore Drive to a report of multiple people with heat-related illness.

An EMS Plan I was requested to bring about five rescue-ambulances to the scene.

Firefighters set up a misting hose to safely cool people down as they left the beach. North Avenue Beach was ordered closed because of the high temperatures and the high number of people at the beach.

There was no National Weather Service heat alert because the criteria for of high temperature and high humidity was not met. However an unseasonably cool, rainy Spring has not caused residents of Chicago to become heat acclimated. Physiologically, the human body can take up to 10 days to become safely acclimated to the warmer weather.

The official high at O’Hare International Airport was 88F.
