Wonder Lake is a village in McHenry County, Illinois and is located in two townships — Greenwood Township and McHenry Township. The population was 1,345 at the 2000 census, but by the 2010 census, the population had grown to 4,026.
Lake and Village of Wonder Lake
The name Wonder Lake refers to both the lake and the village incorporated in 1974 from one of the west side subdivisions, known as Sunrise Ridge. The original name was Village of Sunrise Ridge, but the name was changed to The Village of Wonder Lake a few years later. The lake is also annexed and managed by the Village of Wonder Lake.

Harrison School District 36 serves kindergarten through 8th grade students living on the East Side of the village of Wonder Lake. The school mascot is the Hurricane. The school property is located directly east of Harrison-Benwell County Park and Conservation Area, which is east of the lake.
Wonder Lake residents are served by the Wonder Lake Police Department and the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District.
The police department headquarters is a newly constructed facility at the corner of Thompson Road and Wonder Lake Road.
