In 1969 cereal conglomerate General Mills purchased the Lionel product line from the Lionel Corporation (founded in 1900). In 1986 the Lionel product line was purchased by businessman Richard P. Kughn, naming the company Lionel Trains, Inc. In 1995 the Martin Davis Investment Group (Wellspring) bought Lionel Trains, Inc. and renamed the company Lionel, LLC.
