“Active Shooter” At Least One Dead on 17th Floor LaSalle St High Rise Near Jackson Blvd Chicago “Bank of America Building”

Chicago police, SWAT and firefighters and paramedics responded just before 10:00 a.m. to a report of an active shooter at 231 South LaSalle Street near Jackson Boulevard. The location is just north of the Chicago Board of Trade Building (occupied by about 33 percent by CME Group) at the foot of the LaSalle Street canyon. Early reports indicate two people were shot, and at least one person — possibly the shooter — is dead.

The “active shooter” scene was secured by about 10:02 a.m.

One person was removed on a stretcher by Chicago Fire Department paramedics and transported to Level I trauma center Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

By about 11:00 a.m. Chicago police confirmed that a 59-year-old man is dead, and a 54-year-old man is in critical condition after the shooting incident at 231 South LaSalle Street. Police initially are describing the incident as a murder attempt/suicide. A male, age 59, was found dead at the scene with a gunshot to the head. A male, age 56, was found with A life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Level I Trauma Center Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The “active shooter” scene was located at the high-rise known as the Bank of America building — built in 1924. The high-rise is a 936,800-square-foot tower at 231 S. LaSalle and was reported to be 88.4 percent leased in 2012.
