Estranged Husband Shoots Multiple Victims at Azana Hair Salon on N Moorland, Brookfield, Wisconsin

Deputies searched Sunday for a shooter after multiple people were wounded when someone opened fire at Azana Salon & Spa near Brookfield Square Mall — a suburban Milwaukee shopping mall in the Town of Brookfield, Wisconsin.

Brookfield police responded about 11:05 a.m. Sunday to a report of a man with a gun shooting at people at Azana Hair Salon, 200 North Moorland Road. Police immediately surrounded the salon and initially believed they had the offender inside the building. Shooting victims were confirmed, and the offender is believed to be an estranged husband of a salon employee. A witness early in the incident reported at least one victim was shot in the head. The offender is believed to be wearing camouflage fatigues armed with a handgun and a lot of ammunition.

An extra alarm for firefighter/paramedics ambulances to respond to the Brookfield scene has been ordered. Brookfield police received report that there are possible 8-10 shooting victims. One or two injured victims were immediately discovered outside the building. A Mass Casualty Incident alarm has been activated. The EMS Alarm was at the second level, which would include a response of 6 to 12 rescue ambulances. The EMS Alarm has since been elevated to a third alarm. Flight for Life responded with at least one medical evacuation helicopter, which landed at the northeast corner of Brookfield Square Mall. Three people are reported killed.

Four victims, who were immediately found outside or just inside the Azana salon, were transported to Level I Trauma Center Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the victims was pregnant and is reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are searching for an offender, who is described as 6’1″ 270 LB male/black with a bald head and brown eyes. He was described wearing a gray sweater and blue jeans, and carrying a black-and-white backpack which might have been loaded with ammunition. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a 2003 black Mazda. At 2:20 p.m. police were still searching for the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect is believed to have a residence in Brown Deer.

At 12:55 p.m. an active shooter is still being pursued and the area is not secure. Extra police responded to the scene, especially near the US Bank where a staging area is assembled and many family members have arrived.

A SWAT TEAM and FBI is on the scene.

At 2:22 p.m. it was reported that one propane-sized IED was discovered inside the building. Police were advised to be alert to any further devices, including devices may have been placed in automobiles. Milwaukee Bomb squad responded to the scene.

Family members of Azana Salon victims are meeting at the first building north of the McDonald’s.

The gunman, identified as Radcliffe Franklin Haughton, was found dead after 4:00 p.m. Police attention was on a small room with two massage tables that was locked. The room isn’t usually locked. Haughton’s body was found inside the spa with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
