NBC Approves ‘Chicago Fire’ Pilot — Action-Driven Drama About Heroic Men and Women of the Chicago Fire Department

Reruns of Rescue Me and EMERGENCY! might be satisfactory for some firefighter fans, but what if a new series would air about the Chicago Fire Department with the quality of Law and Order? NBC has approved the attempt at such a pilot, Chicago Fire, produced by Dick Wolf and reported to be an action drama showing the lives of the men and women of the Chicago Fire Department. Writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (both of 3:10 to Yuma fame, starring Russell Crowe) are also working on the project.

of the Chicago Fire Department.”

The pilot and the series (if picked up) will be filmed in Chicago.

Dick Wolf is a producer of crime stories, such as the television series Miami Vice (supervising producer) and NBC’s Law & Order, which he created. Plots of Law & Order were often based on real cases that recently made headlines (“Ripped from the Headlines”), and lasted for 20 seasons. Episodes were shot in New York City with emphasis on local characters, dialects, neighborhood customs, history and cityscapes.

Wolf’s company, Dick Wolf Films, also produced Twin Towers, the 2003 Academy Award-winning Short Documentary about two brothers — a policeman and a fireman, who lost their lives in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.

Considering the popularity of The Cardinal — Arlingtoncardinal.com videos of Chicago Fire Department Squad 5 and the Chicago firehouse of Squad 1, Engine 42, there could be a demand for a high quality, realistic television series about the Chicago Fire Department.
