9-1-1 Interrupted in Orange County — California Outage Lasts About 90 Minutes

#ad▼

The sheriff’s department in southern California’s Orange County reports the 911 emergency call system for much of the county has been repaired after an outage that shut it down for 90 minutes early Saturday.

He says callers could still dial two regular business numbers to reach dispatchers, but it is unknown how people would know to call those regular business numbers.

The outage was caused by changes related to the introduction of a new 657 area code in the region. AT&T fixed the problem with no serious aggravated 9-1-1 request-for-help situations reported.
