Photos of bullet holes in two pickup trucks were submitted to CARDINAL NEWS last month, and have been verified that they were photos of two pickup trucks that were located in the Crave bar parking lot around 1:55 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 after two people were shot. At least two pickup trucks were struck — a red pickup truck and a dark blue-green pickup truck.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police, Arlington Heights police, Buffalo Grove police, and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 1:55 a.m., Saturday to a report of a shooting across the street from the Crave Food Joynt & Pizza, 1204 West Rand Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights, Wheeling Township.
Arriving first on the scene, police discovered a male victim down on the ground across the street from the Crave bar. The victim was located in the parkway on the south side of Rand Road near the Greenwood Place townhomes and the ComEd electric power transmission and distribution right of way. Palatine firefighters and paramedics treated one gunshot victim, and rushed the victim with extra personnel aboard the ambulance to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
A second gunshot victim showed up at a nearby hospital without the help of paramedics. The gunshot victims are described by police as a 29 year-old male, and a 35 year-old. A witness described the victims as Hispanic males.
There were two crime scenes investigated — the parkway on the south side of Rand Road and the parking lot to the northwest of the Crave bar. No evidence markers were placed on the south of Rand Road, but at least two items were photographed and placed in an evidence collection back from parkway south of Rand Road.
A witness reported there was a vehicle with a broken window in the northwest area of the parking lot. Cook County Sheriff’s police officers were investigating the scene, and were focused on the parking lot at Crave.
The inside of the bar was not closed or evacuated during the shooting investigation. A witness reported there was no criminal activity connected to the shooting inside the bar. Crave bar closes at 3:30 a.m. overnight Friday to Saturday.
Police officers from Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, and possibly Palatine responded to assist Cook County Sheriff’s deputies secure the scene.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, and is requesting anyone with information about the shooting contact Cook County Sheriff’s detectives at 708-865-4896.
