Police, firefighters and paramedics from Buffalo Grove responded about 8:47 a.m. Thursday, November 25, 2021 to a report of a house fire in the block of 1000 Greenridge Road in Buffalo Grove. Police arrived first and reported smoke covering the roadway in front of the house.
An automatic aid Arlington Heights Fire Engine 4’s crew from the closest fire station arrived with Buffalo Grove Tower Ladder 25 and attacked an attached garage fire with hose lines as flames and smoke were showing from the garage. Firefighters reported smoke with active fire and upgraded the fire call to a working fire by 8:53 a.m.
A person driving by the had seen the fire and smoke and alerted the family that was sleeping inside that their garage was on fire. Two children and their parents were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. They were sheltered at the next door neighbor’s home directly south of the fire. Several people in the neighborhood called 9-1-1. Heavy smoke blew low across the road, making dangerous conditions for pedestrians in the front of the home. Police blocked the area with perimeter tape.

Firefighters cut through the garage door with a K-12 power saw to remove it from the garage opening.
Fire burnt through the north wall of the attached garage, but firefighters were able to stop flames from extending into the living space of the home. Firefighters were concerned that the garage fire may have extended into the attic, but firefighters on ladders confirmed there was no fire in the attic.
A vehicle was also burning inside the garage, and the vehicle was destroyed by fire.
The fire was declared knocked by about 9:07 a.m., and the fire was declared out by 9:33 a.m.
Initially, there were no injuries reported.
Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Arlington Heights, Libertyville, Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, and Wheeling were assigned to the fire scene.
Firefighters, paramedics and/or command officers from Arlington Heights, Grayslake, Palatine, Park Ridge and Wauconda stood by in Buffalo Grove fire stations or responded to unrelated calls in Buffalo Grove.
Investigators on the scene were taking a good look at a smoker that was near the north wall inside the garage, but fire officials declined to indicate any suspected cause of the fire on early assessment.
